daytour
Baståsen & Sörknatten

We start with a shorter tour in Baståsen Nature Reserve, which consists of a steep slope covered in deciduous forest. The reserve is small and set aside for its botanical values. Here we can get to know one type of forest and its undergrowth.
A hike up to Sörknatten’s peak can be an exciting experience. The path runs over gray-white, almost bare mountains where not much more grows than mosses and a long line of lichens. Twisted, windswept pines grow on the mountaintops and in clear weather you can see over forests and lakes all the way to Vänern and Kinnekulle.
However, the nature reserve is much more than bare quartzite hills. In the valleys grow spruce and deciduous forest areas and here you can find lingonberry, rock pea and the rare grass forest fescue. The area also has one of Dalsland’s largest natural forests, where the oldest trees are more than three hundred years old.
