Bird watching & kayaking
One of the best things I know is to combine spring, paddling and birdwatching. And preferably in the Lurö archipelago. In spring and autumn, many bird species choose to migrate over the Lurö archipelago, which with its islands and islets stretches like a string of pearls across Lake Vänern in a north-south direction. At Ekenäs, the southern tip of Värmland, many birds gather in autumn and then migrate further south across Lake Vänern. The air is filled with calling cranes and swan songs and chirping from many small birds. Many of the smaller birds and waders take the opportunity to forage on some of the islands where old pastures have been restored.
In summer, the air is filled with seagulls, terns and snipe, and ospreys also spend their summers here. Summertime also includes loons and redshanks, as well as many different species of ducks. The white-tailed eagle is one of the resident bird species in the archipelago and is often seen in the sky.
A birdwatching paddle starts early in the day and lasts about 6 hours. We start from Ekenäs harbor and wind our way out along the reeds and past small islands and skerries to Vithall and Sönnervass where we have a view of the entire archipelago and the waders land to forage and rest. Here we can keep an eye out with telescopes, binoculars and a camera for many different bird species. And when we are hungry we will prepare a hearty snack and drink.
We naturally take into account nature and bird protection areas and keep a respectful distance from all birds. The tours are held during April and May and September. Keep in mind that a dry suit may be needed to participate in the tours (water temperature < 15 degrees Celsius). Telescopes and binoculars can be borrowed. The tours will be available to book shortly via the link below. If you would like a tailor-made tour, please contact me directly at info@fraiwa.se or +46 723261748.
